Deconstructed Recount

Show, Don’t Tell

Deconstructed Recount

Write about your adventures these holidays!

Your classmates will try to guess what you did based on your description.

WRITE ABOUT IT

DRAW A PICTURE

SEE

I saw tabletops and technical drops and slopes. Tacty and dusty ground perfect for mountain biking. I saw the dusty shuttle, along with Yaz, Pete, Cheeky and with large grins on their faces. I saw blood pumping through my veins.

HEAR

I heard my heart thumping in my ears, I heard Ken snoring on the way home. I heard Pete swearing as Ken crashed into him. I heard the steady thump of the shuttle roaring down the road.

TASTE

I tasted sour blood that flowed from my tongue. I tasted a sweet Lollie for energy. I tasted hot watery mud as Pete splashed me with his back wheel.

SMELL

I smelt sweaty humans around me. I smelt rot as I hopped over a rotten log. I smelt the hot strong air of Ngaa whai springs. I smelt the dusty air of the shuttle.

FEEL

I felt blood trickle down my leg into my sock. I felt sweat trickle from my hair onto my forehead.  I felt the adrenaline pumping through my veins. I felt the whoosh of air fly past my ears.

Walt: deconstructed recount

For the last week, we have been making a denconstructed recount, it has been fun because we have to guess what each others stroy are about. I think it has been super fun! Watching people get frustrated over trying to work out what you're writing! I hope you enjoy my blog post.

  1. Kia ora Hunter my name is Jade, I am a year 8 student at Paihia School. I really like your blog post about “Deconstructed Recount” because I like the way you have set it out, for example the pictures on one side and the writing on the other. I don’t think I have done anything like your amazing blog post before but I would definitely try it. What do you think the best part about this activity was?

  2. Hi, my name is Tiana and I’m a year seven student at Paihia School. I really like your blog post because it has a lot of punctuation. I also like how you added a chart of what you had to write about and what you write.
I have never done this before but I have been writing narratives and learning to write about one scene of the story.
Was this activity fun for you?
